It has an app where you can see the power consumption. I reviewed the device about four years ago, so you can check some of its features there.

How’d you do that?

Comment on Levoit Core 300S Smart Air Purifier Review by santa_cruzer https://www.mbreviews.com/levoit-core-300s-review/#comment-2146 Thu, 10 Aug 2023 17:14:35 +0000 https://www.mbreviews.com/?p=15351#comment-2146 Thanks – very thorough review of the important elements of the product.

It’d be nice to dig in a bit on how well Levoit works with Google Home (I’ve had problems with some services such as Feit or Cync by GE being slow or just losing setup with the “smart” product so I have to re-reg it frequently, from a Comcast XB7 wifi router)

Comment on Asus RT-AX58U (RT-AX3000) Review (Revisited) by SmurfnSurf https://www.mbreviews.com/asus-rt-ax58u-review/#comment-2131 Sat, 29 Jul 2023 00:25:05 +0000 https://www.mbreviews.com/?p=12266#comment-2131 Hi Mark,

Thanks for the comprehensive review as always. Not many people go to the extent of disassembling these routers and in this case it leads me to a few questions for you, specifically regarding antennas.

I broke one of those non-removable antennae and I was thinking to try and replace them all with new IPX (or I.FL) to RP-SMA cables and 4 replacement antennae. My questions are

1. Do you have any details as to the IPX clip on the Route PCB is it M or F and what size are they please?
2. I can order ASUS Antennae off AliExpress but would it be worth getting 10 or 12 dbi ones?

Thanks!

Comment on XGIMI Halo Plus 1080p Projector Review: One of the best portable projectors by Mark B https://www.mbreviews.com/xgimi-halo-plus-1080p-projector-review/#comment-2130 Thu, 27 Jul 2023 13:44:42 +0000 https://www.mbreviews.com/?p=18297#comment-2130 In reply to fourspin.

I used something similar to the iFixit jimmy. Just go around it until a spot will give in and allow you to insert the tool – that’s what I did.

I have the first gen version and I want to open it up to clean the fan (it has gotten noisy) but I can’t get a spudger in there to save my life. The tolerances on this projector are pretty amazing.

Comment on Is Netgear Armor worth it? It depends. by genesishep https://www.mbreviews.com/is-netgear-armor-worth-it/#comment-2113 Fri, 21 Jul 2023 23:14:43 +0000 https://www.mbreviews.com/?p=15748#comment-2113 I use Safing’s Portmaster on my computers as a user-friendly per device privacy tool. It’s extremely powerful and effective which can either work alongside Pi-Hole or act as a per-device replacement if configured correctly. It’s free and open source though you can subscribe to their SPN service if you require such a tool.

The biggest difference is that it’s a tool that needs to be configured on each individual device rather than something that can be deployed across a network. Their website does have instructions on how to install it on a server so it can be used to protect an entire network but I’m unsure how effective or how easy this is to accomplish but it’s something to be explored.

Avoidthehack has a decent writeup on the basics of this tool here https://avoidthehack.com/safing-portmaster

Comment on Does an Ethernet port on the WiFi Extender actually matter? by Mark B https://www.mbreviews.com/ethernet-port-on-the-wifi-extender/#comment-2102 Sat, 08 Jul 2023 08:09:46 +0000 https://www.mbreviews.com/?p=17076#comment-2102 In reply to gavrrr.

Hello. You say that you have an Ethernet cable from the router going to your garage. In this case, I would just connect one end to any of the LAN ports of your ISP router and to the WAN port of one the old router you have available. Usually, the secondary router will receive an IP address from the main router (you may haver to change it from say PPPoE to DHCP in the connection type). Although, ideally, you should set it as Access Point if that option is available. Then just connect the PC directly to your secondary router. You do not need a WiFi repeater.

I have wifi in my house from my ISP router and it works fine but I would like to extend it to the other half of the house a bit better, but. My main aim is to extend the wifi to my garage which is about 20 metres away through brick & sheetmetal walls. I also want to be able to plug in a PC in the garage via ethernet cable as well. I have a CAT6 LAN cable running to the garage from the router location in the house. There is also LAN cabling running to several rooms in the house. I have a couple of old routers and network switches on hand also, so is it possible to use these devices to do what I need or do I need new extenders etc? Many thanks for your help.

Comment on The best WiFi SD Cards of 2023 by Mark B https://www.mbreviews.com/best-wifi-sd-card/#comment-2085 Sat, 17 Jun 2023 14:44:22 +0000 https://www.mbreviews.com/?p=12420#comment-2085 In reply to twrowley.

I have used the ezShare card with a 3D printer and it seems that as long as it gets power, it will broadcast the SSID, so you should be able to connect to it wirelessly. About the memory card adapter, I don’t know the type that you have available. Remember that the WiFi SD cards are not microSD, so they may not fit any type of adapter.
